Motivation Tips For Home Workouts

Sometimes the hardest part about working out is finding the continued motivation to get yourself going every day.  Even with a home gym, the temptation to relax in front of the television can be far stronger than finding the motivation to run a couple miles on the treadmill. Here are some tips to avoid the motivation drain in home workouts.

There is so much helpful advice out there for individuals who are looking for ways to motivate themselves to go to the gym.  However, motivation tips and tricks are not a “one size fits all” solution to finding out the best motivational technique that gets YOU into completing those daily fat burning workouts for your at home training program. 

Everyone functions off of a different motivator.  Some of us are motivated by money, others are motivated by material objects, and some of us are motivated just by the changes we see in our bodies when we focus and complete our regular home workouts.  But deciding on the best motivational tool for you can be tricky, unless you are able to determine your key trigger for getting off the couch and into the home gym.

Many of us work full-time jobs.  What’s the motivator there?  The main motivator for many of us when it comes to our careers is the motivation of money.  If money is your motivator, then you will want to make it your motivator for your cardio at home workouts as well.  Perhaps you could psych yourself up by rewarding yourself with some money from your savings account if you go four weeks without missing a workout.  Or maybe treat yourself to a new DVD, workout outfit or a new pair of tennis shoes once you’ve reached a certain goal weight.

Some of us are motivated by others.  Use your family as a motivator for your at home training regimen.  Get the kids involved with your workout routine and give them incentives for pushing you to do your best and get in your home workouts every day.  Use your children’s best motivators to help push you–for example, if you go three weeks without skimping on your training, you owe them an afternoon at the arcades.  This will get your children involved and help them encourage you to do your best.

If you’re focused on a cardio at home routine with running or jogging, consider signing up for an upcoming 5K or 10K race.  This way, you know you have a goal in mind, as well as a date of completion, which can help you get the exercise motivation you need to be prepared and well-trained for the event.  Sometimes investing the money in a race and marking a day on the calendar can be enough to keep us going, knowing we have invested and committed to a fun and exciting fitness event outside of the home.

Finding what motivates YOU is the most effective way of keeping steady with your home workouts.  Not everyone is motivated by the same thing, and finding out what gets you from couch to cardio will help you in the long run when it comes to keeping a home workout routine and sticking with it.

Fortunately some home workouts, like Jillian Michaels programs for example, include ongoing contact or support and others build in motivational aspects.  Signing up for these types of programs can also help with motivation and keeping you focused on your exercise and fitness goals.
